Healing my Relationship with Money

 Money had never been an issue for me; that was not the problem.

In a middle-class family where I grew up, there was always enough. I also worked as a recruiter for a hedge fund as an adult and had great success with cryptocurrency investments.

However, for some reason, I felt constricted around money.

I constantly sought for more money, feared losing what I had, planned ahead three steps, and made calculated financial judgements.

Although it didn't always feel nice, I thought I was being clever and savvy.

I had assumed I had the whole topic of money pretty well under control, but my curiosity or intuition led me to enrol in Karen McAllister's Money Coaching programme.

I became aware of how much tightness, fear, and greed I had internalised towards money as we got started working together.

One of my main objectives as an American was to accumulate as much wealth as I could as rapidly as possible in order to retire early. But after working with Karen, I saw that this was a manifestation of a negative attitude toward and relationship with work—the belief that labour is fundamentally unfulfilling and must be tedious.

 

In summary, my relationship to money lacked sufficient fluidity, flexibility, or generosity. Read more
